Bird Watching
Terceira island is a hotspot for rarities and scarce visiting species, especially in the Praia da Vitória area. The island provides migratory birds with refuge, feeding, and resting conditions.
Some of the observation sites are internationally recognized, with highlights including the Paul da Praia da Vitória, located in the urban center of the city, a rare feature in the Macaronesia region; the Paul da Pedreira do Cabo da Praia, internationally recognized as the best site in the Western Palearctic for observing birds from North America; and the Paul do Belo Jardim. Other observation sites include the Bay of Angra do Heroísmo, Riviera Beach, Fajã da Serreta, Lagoa do Negro, Ponta das Contendas, or the Cabrito Reservoir. Activity should be conducted in a way that does not interfere with the natural behavior of the species and preferably accompanied by a guide.
