Church of Misericórdia

It is a temple dating back to the 16th century, dedicated to Senhor Santo Cristo. The church has a single nave but features two main chapels: the Chapel of the Holy Spirit and the Chapel of Senhor Santo Cristo das Misericórdias, making it one of the few churches in the country with this characteristic.

Initially, there were two churches at this location: the Church of the Holy Spirit, built in 1496, and the Church of Mercy, dedicated to Our Lady of the Visitation, built in 1498. These two churches, constructed side by side, were unified in 1521 with the Union of the Brotherhoods, resulting in a larger church while preserving both main chapels to this day. It was rebuilt in the 20th century after being severely damaged by a devastating fire in 1921 that almost completely destroyed it.

Inside, there is a 16th-century image of the Eternal Father holding Christ in His arms, as well as 16th-century Flemish paintings on cedar wood, along with other vestments and valuable religious artifacts.
