The Chapel of Santo António, located on Canada de Santo António near Porto dos Biscoitos, was founded by José Diniz Ormonde in 1690 after he found the image of Santo António in the sea and built the chapel. It was desecrated in 1830 by the Queen’s Volunteer Battalion but was restored in 1874. It passed through several generations of the Ormonde family before being donated to the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The chapel has an altar with images of Santo António and Our Lady of Fatima, donated by fishermen.
A mass and a procession in honor of Santo António and Our Lady of Fatima are held on the last Sunday of September, passing through the boats in the harbor.
