Mother Church of Praia da Vitória
In 1456, Jacóme de Bruges, the first Captain of Vila da Praia, founded the Igreja Matriz da Praia da Vitória. Considered one of the largest and most beautiful religious monuments in Terceira, the Matriz is classified as a Public Interest Property since June 11, 1980. From the church stands the portal of the main facade and two lateral portals from the sixteenth century, the Manueline style, the magnificent Gothic rose window and inside the baroque gilt of the eighteenth century on the Capela do Santíssimo Sacramento and the baroque gilded from the nineteenth century on the main chapel.
