The Império do Espírito Santo de São Mateus, located in the village of São Mateus da Calheta, in Angra do Heroísmo, was built in 1873, after being destroyed by a storm in 1855. The celebration of the cult of the Holy Spirit occurs on Pentecost and Trinity Sundays, with two festivals: Bodo da Terra and Bodo do Mar. The festivities include processions, festive mass, distribution of bread and wine, selection of the steward, concerts, bazaar, and rope bullfights. The two festivals have their own brotherhoods and are marked by religious and cultural activities.
