The Império do Espírito Santo dos Altares is located in the parish of Altares, Angra do Heroísmo. Its empire was built in 1903. The festivities start on the Sunday after Easter and continue until Trinity Sunday, with Bodos on Pentecost Sunday and Trinity Sunday.
The Brotherhood owns the empire and the pantry, which was built in 1960. Although the founding date is unknown, the statutes were approved on 11/03/1885. A division occurred in the 60s, resulting in two groups: “Saiotes” and “Terroristas,” who celebrated on different days. In the 70s, the brotherhoods merged.
The bodos are organized by the stewards and emperors. On the Saturday and Sunday of the bodo, the crowns are taken in procession to the empire. On Trinity Monday, the pelouros are drawn for the coming years, and a new steward is appointed.
