The Monument to the Bull is a sculpture with 11 meters of height and covered in bronze, that honors the bullfight culture of the Terceira island. It was designed by a local artist Renato Costa e Silva. It is composed of a set of three bulls, inserted in a cylinder, in different positions and that allow a free interpretation of the diverse forms of bullfighting.
Built by Tertulia Tauromáquica Terceirense, the monument honors bullfight, cattlemen, shepherds, bullfighters and all those who contribute to keep the culture alive and intensely lived. It is also a symbol of the resilience of outsiders, in the victory that was achieved with the help of bulls, in the celebrated battle of Salga.
