Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres
The origin of the devotion to Nossa Senhora dos Milagres [Our Lady of Miracles], in Serreta,began in the late 17th century when Father Isidro Fagundes Machado built a chapel after seeking refuge there. Construction of the church started in 1819, led by General Francisco António de Araújo, and was completed in 1842. After damage caused by the 1980 earthquake, it was rebuilt and now stands at a height of 19m, with a single nave and featuring a 17th-century Indo-Portuguese ivory image of Christ.
